8 Fastest Growing Crypto Trends of 2024

(that will bring your portfolio back to life)

Hey,

In this newsletter, I’ll be covering the 8 Fastest Growing Crypto Trends of 2024

(that will bring your portfolio back to life)

Enjoy!

Trend 1: Liquid Staking Tokens & Liquid Staking Derivatives

LSTs started to become even more popular after the Ethereum Shanghai upgrade.

Now, you might be wondering what the main difference is between LSTs and LSD

here’s a simple explanation:

LSTs represent a user's staked assets directly, offering liquidity and additional yields, while LSDs are derivative instruments derived from LSTs. LSTs often provide direct voting rights and are considered less complex, making them more user-friendly than LSDs.

With a valuation of approximately $31 billion, the liquid staking sector is growing quickly.

It’s also changing how we approach blockchain security and yield generation.

Key Projects:

Eigenlayer liquid restaking

  • EigenLayer (no token yet): EigenLayer is innovating by allowing users to retake their already staked tokens (ETH, rETH, stETH, osETH) on multiple layers.

  • Lido (LDO): Offers stETH, enabling Ethereum stakers to earn rewards while maintaining liquidity, thus allowing for participation in DeFi activities without locking up assets.

The returns on normal staking solutions have decreased significantly over the last two years. So it's no surprise that many investors are looking for more secure and profitable ways to generate yield on their staked assets without the questionable aspects of other DeFi platforms.

That’s why restaking platforms have become one of the fastest-growing narratives and will continue to grow.

If you ever restaked tokens on eigenlayer you might be able to claim the $ALT airdrop. More info here.

Trend 2: Layer 2 Scaling Solutions

Layer 2 Scaling Solutions are an incredibly important scaling puzzle that allows Layer 1 networks to scale beyond their current capacity.

L2 scaling solutions for Ethereum are plentiful, but as user numbers rise, other base layers like Bitcoin will also need L2 scaling solutions.

Key Projects: MATIC ($7bn), IMX ($2.9bn), OP ($2.9bn), ARB ($2.2bn)

L2 Market Capitalization: $19bn

One of the most hyped L2 scaling solutions is zkSync. I predict that most L1 chains will have some form of zkSync L2 solution in the future.

Trend 3: BRC-20 Tokens and Bitcoin Ordinals

Innovations within the Bitcoin network, BRC-20 tokens, and Bitcoin Ordinals introduce unique digital assets and tokens, expanding Bitcoin's functionality.

Services like Sats Names bring a naming system for Bitcoin addresses, enhancing usability and personalization within the Bitcoin network, similar to the Ethereum Name Service (ENS).

Key Projects: ORDI ($1.1bn), MUBI ($104m), TRAC ($106m).

BRCfi Market Capitalization: $2.4Bn

BRC 20 tokens and Bitcoin Ordinals have become extremely popular with Bitcoin enthusiasts. I know quite a few friends who have never touched NFTs before but only became interested in NFTs as soon as they were on Bitcoin.

Here’s a two-part series on BRCfi I wrote a while ago if you want more info:

Trend 4: Decentralized Physical Infrastructure Networks (DePIN)

DePIN is revolutionizing infrastructure management by incentiving community participating and ownership.

From wireless networks to computing power, DePIN integrates everyday physical objects into the blockchain, fostering a decentralized approach that contrasts with traditional, centralized infrastructure models.

A friend who does a lot of 3D rendering uses RNDR's computing power to render designs faster without requiring a high-end computer.

Key Projects: RNDR ($1.6bn), FIL($2.5bn), RLC ($159m), OCEAN ($246m), DATA ($40m)

Market Capitalization: $13Bn (top 5 are $6bn)

Trend 5: Real World Assets (RWA)

Imagine transforming tangible assets like your favorite painting or the building down the street into digital tokens.

This concept is not just a vision; it's becoming a reality, connecting physical assets to Web3. However, I expect the RWA TVL to grow to $2T by 2030. Roland Berger expects the RWA sector to grow to $10T by 2030.

Key Trends: Tokenization expansion, novel asset tokenization.

Market Capitalization: $2.5b

I wrote an extensive article on RWA in December. You can read it here:

Here’s 6 more trends that I will cover more in detail in another newsletter:

Trend 6: GambleFi

Market Capitalization: $671m

  • Rollbit Coin (RLB)

  • FUNToken (FUN)

  • WINR Protcol (WINR)

Trend 7: Modular Blockchains

Market Capitalization: $3.2bn

Celestia is the largest project in this new narrative, with $2.9bn.

Trend 8: Crypto AI

Market Capitalization: $10bn

Top coins:

  • Bittensor (TAO)

  • Render (RNDR)

  • Akash Network (AKT)

  • Fetch ai (FET)

Final Thoughts

So many good narratives are popping up that it's hard to keep track. I recommend sticking with narratives that you feel can last for a long time. Narratives like RWA and DePIN are those types of narratives I think can have a good future.

I'm also excited about the new modular blockchain narrative.

That’s it for this newsletter.

I’ll leave you with two Bonus Ideas

$ALT buy signal on the 4h timeframe at $0.32
update: since this is an alert on a short term timeframe this trade idea is invalid if we break below 0.28

$MANTA buy signal 4h timeframe $2.79

update: since this is an alert on a short term timeframe this trade idea is invalid if we break below 2.56

P.S for those that want to learn more about volume profiles. Here’s a fantastic tutorial:
